SEISMIC PROFILE FROM THE SOUTH RUKURU AREA OF LAKE MALAWI

Seismic profile from the South Rukuru area of Lake Malawi, located at the mouth of a subaqueous canyon and near an offshore border fault (see block diagram above). In this image, collected using a small airgun source, we observe a large (~25 km2) subaqueous fan. When cored, we discovered that the fan consists of thick accumulations of sand and gravel, deposited by turbidity currents and debris flows.
